Photo & Video Characteristics
- Photo altitudes and perspectives will be adjusted to suit the location.
- Photo and video proofs will have a watermark. Purchased media will not.
- Photos are in JPEG format unless another format is requested.
- Photo size is 5472×3648 px (20MP 3×2 format) unless a smaller scale is requested.
- Photo file sizes are 8-10 MB per photo (in 20MP format).
- Video altitudes and perspectives will be adjusted to suit the location.
- Videos are in MP4 H.264 format unless another format is requested.
- Video size is 4096×2160 (4K = UHD).
- Videos are silent unless produced through extensive editing by prior agreement.
- Video file sizes are approximately 0.6 to 3.0 GB per video.
- Videos that are Trimmed have low-appeal footage removed.
Operational & Pricing Factors
Every project has a unique set of circumstances that must be incorporated into operational planning, and thus pricing. In most cases, the client will have a very reliable estimate prior to commitment, especially in property packages for real estate or personal projects. These considerations include, but are not limited to:
- Airspace rules – in some areas these can require weeks to obtain authorization. Most projects will be minimally impacted, if at all.
- Operational rules – all operations, including flights over people and vehicles, will be conducted in strict adherence with FAA regulations.
- Photo and video editing is time intensive, requires expensive computer hardware and software, and has a steep learning curve. The resulting product is a combination of art and science, and preferences vary with the individual. These factors are why edited pictures and video are more expensive than unedited products. Editing prices are built into the package or hourly rates.
- Risk – some jobs include more risk of liability or equipment damage than others. Responsible, legal operation of the equipment will always be a high priority. BDAI always carries one million dollars in specialized business liability insurance, but certain flights involve considerably more risk to BDAI equipment than others and this is not covered by insurance.
- Travel – $1 per mile might sound expensive, but it is based on $0.625 per mile that is a commonly used current estimate of the real cost of owning and operating an auto, and $0.375 per mile in in compensation for the pilot photographer’s time on the road. Certain projects can be more efficient when combined with other activities and in these cases travel costs are certainly negotiable.
